Our centre-based walking holiday to the Swiss Alps is extremely popular with those who want to walk some of Switzerland’s best, but more peaceful walks in amongst some stunning Swiss scenery. This holiday offers fantastic flexibility, allowing you to be in control of your daily itinerary. Whether that includes daily walks, or the occasional day with a little more rest and relaxation, the choice is yours.
We caught up with up with Judith and Paul Ransom, who recently went on our flexible centre-based holiday to the Swiss Alps, to see how they found it. Judith and Paul are no stranger to a Collett’s mountain holiday, having previously travelled with us to the Dolomites (no less than 3 times), Tuscany, The Douro Valley, the Pyrenees and Picos de Europa.
Judith and Paul are avid walkers, and travel around the world to take in the amazing scenery on offer. When they’re not travelling to pursue their passion, they are likely to take the time to walk a little closer to home, in their favourite spot of Nidderdale in Yorkshire.
Collett’s: “Tell us a little bit more about yourselves?
Judith: “We are a married couple who walk most days in all weathers. We also like swimming, walking football and bowling. We are retired and enjoy spending time with our granddaughters.”
Collett’s: “How did you find the whole experience of your recent holiday to Switzerland?”
Judith: “We absolutely loved it. The walks were challenging and the views spectacular. The Collette’s representatives, Taea and Bela, were really helpful and great fun. They tailored walks to suit us each day and gave us lots of useful advice. Our room and the hotel in general were brilliant. We had some great food too.”
Collett’s: “What did you think of the walks on your holiday?”
Judith: “They were challenging and very enjoyable. We were looking for challenging walks, and each of the recommendations by Taea & Bela were perfect and offered fantastic scenery, too.”
Collett's Flexible Centre-Based Walking Holidays
Each of our centre-based holidays to the Swiss Alps, Dolomites, Austrian Alps and Tuscany have our on–the–ground Walk Teams in attendance throughout your stay. They are on–hand to help you select the right walks for your needs each day, as well as give great advice on how to enjoy the local area. One of the great aspects of these holidays is their flexibility. If you fancy taking a day or two away from walking to enjoy some time in the spa (spa’s facilities available at selected hotels), have lunch in one of the fantastic local restaurants, or just to meander around the local town, they are there to help you tailor your itinerary to your needs.
Collett’s: “How did you find the accommodation?
Judith: “ It was excellent. We had a fantastic room with a lovely view from our window. The bed was really comfortable, and the food in the hotel was great, with a really good choice over the week that we were there.”
Collett’s: “Did you attend the Collett’s Office Hour? How did you find the experience?”
Judith: “Yes, we have always enjoyed Collett’s Office Hour, and we went each night in Switzerland Talking through the walks for the next day is invaluable, and we also love meeting and speaking to other guests.”
Collett's Office Hour
For those who have never been on a Collett’s walking holiday, Office Hour is something that takes place each evening on our centre-based walking holidays. They are led by our on–the–ground Walk Teams and are an opportunity to speak to the team about the type of walks you want to embark on on your holiday. In addition to having time with the Collett’s Walks Team, it’s a fantastic opportunity to speak to our other like-minded guests about the walks you have done, and to share experiences over a glass of wine or two. Many of our guests meet great friends at Office Hour and often arrange group walks together, but this is up to you.
Collett’s: “Is there any other information you would like to share about this holiday?
Judith: “The local travel pass was really useful and a terrific addition to the holiday. The Swiss trains and buses are so well organised. The heritage train ride was amazing and a great part of the holiday.”
Our Centre Based holiday to the Swiss Alps includes a complimentary Swiss Mountain pass. This includes free access to buses and trains in the area, making transportation to some of the great sights really easy. You can find out more about the pass and some of the fantastic places you can visit in our dedicated mountain pass blog post.
