Skiing holidays to the Dolomites are an exhilarating way to experience the magical winter landscapes of Dolomiti Superski. To make the most of your ski holiday, having the right gear and clothing is essential. We have been planning skiing holidays since 1998 and compiled a comprehensive list of what to pack for a ski holiday to ensure you stay warm, comfortable, and ready for all the adventures the slopes bring. Whether you're a seasoned skier or preparing for your first trip, this guide will help you pack for a ski holiday like a pro!

Essential Ski Clothing

1. Ski Jacket and Trousers

Your ski jacket and ski trousers are your main defence against the cold and wet, so choose high-quality waterproof, windproof, and insulated options. Look for features like ventilation zips and powder skirts, as these make a huge difference in comfort on the slopes.

2. Base Layers

Layering is key to staying warm while skiing. Start with thermal base layers that trap heat without adding bulk. Merino wool or synthetic fabrics are ideal since they provide insulation while keeping you dry. Packing at least two sets of base layers for tops and bottoms ensures you’re covered for multiple days.

3. Mid-Layers

Mid-layers add extra warmth, trapping heat between your base layer and jacket. Fleece or insulated jackets work perfectly for this layer. They’re light yet effective, offering great warmth without restricting movement.

4. Ski Socks

Opt for specially designed ski socks—they’re thicker and often have reinforced areas to provide additional warmth and comfort for long days in ski boots. Bringing a few pairs ensures you always have a fresh, dry set.

5. Helmet

Now compulsory in Italy for children under 14, we absolutely recommend helmets for all skiers. Not only are they essential to your health and safety, they are also warm and comfortable. Why not buy a brightly coloured one so your ski companions can spot you easily!? They are also available to rent from all ski hire shops.

6. Ski Gloves or Mittens

Cold hands can quickly dampen your experience, so make sure you pack high-quality waterproof gloves or mittens. Mittens are generally warmer, but gloves provide better dexterity.

7. Neck Warmer or Buff

For a little extra warmth, pack a neck warmer or buff. This versatile piece can cover your neck, face, and even your head when the temperatures drop or the wind picks up.

8. Apres-Ski Clothing

After a day on the slopes, you’ll want to change into something cosy yet stylish for apres-ski relaxation. Pack some warm, casual clothes like jumpers, thermal trousers, and sturdy footwear suitable for snowy walks.

9. Evening Footwear

A pair of warm, waterproof boots is perfect for heading out in the evenings. Ideal for keeping your feet dry, these shoes will let you explore charming mountain towns without the risk of slipping on icy paths.

Other Must-Haves

Après Ski Clothing

After the ski day’s done, simply slip into a comfortable pair of jeans and a jumper for dining out, visiting a bar, or unwinding at your accommodation. Since you’ll only be in casual attire for a few hours, packing multiple outfits isn’t necessary. Many of our guests opt to wear their ski jackets during evening outings, which helps conserve space in your luggage.

Backpack for Day Trips

A small daypack is useful for carrying essentials like snacks, sunscreen, lip balm and extra layers. Look for packs with ski-specific features such as an external strap for carrying skis, which is handy if you’re venturing off-piste.

Sunscreen, Lip Balm, Sunglasses & Goggles

The winter sun combined with the reflective snow can be harsh on your skin, so high-SPF sunscreen and lip balm are essential. Even on cloudy days, the UV rays can be strong, particularly in higher-altitude locations. Inevitably, this also makes good-quality sunglasses an essential item, especially on cloudless, sunny days when visibility is perfect. When it comes to cloudier days – or white-out conditions – then you need to use goggles in order to see the undulations of the piste. Sunglasses in these conditions are inadequate. Either way, your packing list should include both sunglasses and goggles.

Dolomiti Superski – Our Skiing Destinations

Our skiing holidays are based in the popular resorts of Arabba and Corvara. Both are nestled in the heart of the Dolomiti Superski, offering a blend of traditional charm and modern amenities. Arabba is the highest resort on the Sellaronda at 1650m, making it one of the best ski resorts in the Dolomites. Corvara is the main village in the Alta Badia, providing stunning views of the iconic Sassongher (2456m) and a charming mix of designer shops and traditional Tyrolean bars and cafes.

In both locations, you can choose between a range on hand-picked hotels that combine traditional Tyrolean charm with warm hospitality and excellent cuisine. Whether you’re looking for a delightful B&B such as Garni Tofana or want to combine skiing with wellness at the 4* Sporthotel Panorama in Corvara, we can find the perfect base for your next skiing adventure.
